ANDEAN TRAVERSE PERU AND BOLIVIA Trekking Grade 4 Peru provides a volatile fantasy of glaciers, jungle and Indian culture, an ideal playground for a total South American experience. Our holiday commences at the highest comercial airport in the world (4,018m) in La Paz, Bolivia. From the time we step off the plane we start the essential process of high altitude acclimatization. The mountaisn surrounding La Paz provide a splendid backdrop to the worlds highest capital city. From La Paz we travel to Cuzco via the classic busand train route, with a stopover at Lake Titicaca to vissit Taquile and the beautiful floating islands of Uros. After a day tour to Machu Picchu, and now being well acclimatized to the altitude, we set out on our 8-day trek to circumnavigate the Vilcanota Range. Donkeys carry all food and equipment while we enjoy the stunning mountain scenery, along with the local people who are the most colourful Andean group in South America. Our second trek is in the spectacular mountains of northern Peru. Here the powerful, tropical sun meets the damp air rising from the primeval forest of the Amazon forming unusual snow formations on themountain faces and ridges. The next 10 days are spenttrekking over high passes, through deep canyons, amoung beautiful forests, and around crystal clear alpine lakes. ITINERARY: Day 1 Sydney
