PATAGONIA AND TIERRA DEL FUEGO

Trekking, Grade 4

Nesting amoungst the largest glaciated area in the temperate world, Chalten with its 50 inhabitants was the original name given to the mighty Fitzroy Mountain by the Tehuelchain Indians. Chalten, meaning "Smoking Mouintain" was consided sacred by the Tahuelches Indians, and because of the affect of the wind and the clouds near the summit was mistaken for a volcano. Now Mt. Fitzroy is considered to be one of the most beautiful, and respected in the World.

This adventure is essentially the same as our 22-day Patagonia and Tierra Del Fuego programme, but finishes with 2 day trips, walking in The Los Galciers National Park. Using a lodge in the village of Chalten, we walk up to the base camps of Cerro Torre and Mt. Fitroy.
